‘Walking with aroha’, features a brown kiwi taking a stroll through beautiful Aotearoa / New Zealand nativebush foliage. This kiwi is sporting a fancy mānuka flower crown and is joined by a few special native friends.Kiwi birds are a significant national icon of Aotearoa / New Zealand, equally cherished by all cultures.They represent the wonderful uniqueness of our native wildlife and the value of our natural heritage. Special native friends included are: Hura/giant centipede, pupurangi/kauri snail, kahukura/red admiral butterfly, pepe para riki/common copper butterfly, rauparaha’s copper butterfly, glade copper butterfly, pepe ao uri/common blue butterfly, janita’s tussock butterfly, mumutawa/ladybird. Native foliage included are: Kauri leaves, kauri male cone, disintegrated kauri female cone, kauri seeds, tānekaha leaves, spiky rimu leaves, tōtara leaves, ponga/silver fern, mānuka/tea tree flowers and leaves.
Art work by Northland based artist, Katy Hayward. This drawing was inspired by her aroha / lovefor going on beautiful bushwalks with her little family, and a special nod to her daughter’s obsession for fancy head pieces at this time in her life.
