RICKY: Yesterday doesn't fit me anymore.

(A fan peeks through the dressing-room door.)

RICKY: Thank you. Have you heard the new album?

FAN: Honestly? No. I keep playing the old ones.

(An awkward pause.)

RICKY: Fair enough.

(The fan exits.)

SAM: Does it bother you?

RICKY: A little. It's strange competing with the person everyone remembers.

PROMOTER: Five minutes!

RICKY: You know what? We'll play the hits.

SAM: And the new songs?

RICKY: Right in the middle. If they came for the past, maybe they'll leave with something from the present.

(The lights dim. The sound of applause grows.)

SAM: Ready?

RICKY: Nobody stays seventeen forever.

(They walk onstage. The crowd cheers as the curtain falls.)
